Smart wastewater treatment pilot programme enables Belgian chemical producer to discharge into sewer
Smart wastewater treatment pilot programme enables Belgian chemical producer to discharge into sewer
Problem

At the Belgium plant of a Japanese chemical manufacturer, which focuses on the production of phenol resins, the wastewater contained high concentrations of phenol, formaldehyde, butanol, and methanol.
As a result, the COD of the wastewater exceeded the permissible discharge limits. The wastewater could not be discharged on site and had to be transported off-site by a third party, who was able to treat and discharge it at a significantly higher cost.

Solution

Logisticon Water Treatment provided a solution for the on-site treatment of wastewater using MBR (Membrane Bioreactor) technology.
This approach enables the client to meet discharge limits directly on site and significantly reduce external discharge and transport costs.

The solution is implemented in two steps:
Step 1: A pilot test is carried out to validate the effectiveness of the MBR technology under site-specific conditions.
Step 2: Following successful validation, the pilot installation is scaled up to treat the full wastewater flow.
